perfect typography, color, size and shape of label, etc appropriate to the target audience of your products.
design three in a series product packaging--
meaning if you decide to do paper products, do the same identity and adapt the packaging for three different paper products--toilet paper, paper towels, tissue...
or food products--olive oil, tomato sauce, pasta box
design for related products, using the same logo, same identity, applied to different shape/size/physical content products.
begin with researching your product and determining it's target audience--
meaning who do you want to sell to?
1) age group?
2) income?
3) college?
4) geographic locale?
5) gender?
POST.
from there, start collecting swipe (examples of product packaging that targets the same audience)
POST.
then begin designing the logo.
POST.
then applications to the product containers.
you may (probably will) have to shop for containers.
you can try the container store, but also look for the most interesting packaging/container for your product.
interesting packaging sells.
try thrift shops and flea markets, also makeup packaging (look in tjmaxx for cheaper name brand products), etc.
